Detail - 20 March 2009

The dealer had their detail guy work on the Forester before delivery. He got rid of a lot of the really bad swirl marks that were on it, but he apparently applied no wax or sealer and it still had a lot of surface scratches & hologramming. Over the last 3 months it had acquired a lot more significant scratches as well, so since the weather was nice for a few days I did some paint recovery work on it.

  • Thorough wash.

  • Claybar

  • Menzerna SIP applied with a Lake County "orange" pad on a 4-inch backing plate on a Porter-Cable 7424 buffer.

  • 1 coat Klasse AIO

  • 2 coats Klasse SG

The SIP & orange cutting pad worked perfectly. Scratches, swirls, hologramming, and other damage that I thought were permanent are now GONE! The Subaru paint is much easier to work than that on some other cars I've done recently. The Klasse products bond with the now-glossy finish, and protect the paint for the next few months.
